We've Arrived!

Portland to San Francisco was a quick flight, just under two hours!  Once I arrived,  my classmate Brittney and I took a shuttle that whisked us directly to our residence hotel-the Kenmore-and voila....we were in the city!  The Kenmore is a big, old hotel with patrons who call each other by name and friendly staff.  My room is spacious with high vaulted ceilings with its own bathroom and I will be sharing with another English and Secondary Ed student, Alexa.  It's a great location in the center of the city in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood, right next to the Japantown.

We were met by our prof Margo Long (who is the ultimate character!), got settled in, took a nap and gave ourselves a walking tour of the area.  Whole Foods, coffee and shops are all within walking distance and the bus stops right outside our hotel.  I love living in a city!

Tomorrow we have orientation bright and early and then we go out to the classrooms. I will be working in a middle school in a rougher area, but that is all that I know for now.  I'm excited to be thrown straight in and hit the ground running, but I know that it will be an intense experience! I will update tomorrow when I find out my placement and get to visit my school.  My hope for this month is to be immersed in diversity and new experiences and to learn about myself as a developing teacher and individual!  Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers this month.
